How to Become an Independent Angler

Riverside Anglers offers instruction to beginner and intermediate anglers. Women's fly fishing instruction is also available, offering a comfortable and non-intimidating atmosphere. Classes can be customized to meet your individual or group needs. Locations include both land based and on the water classrooms. Equipment rental can also be included.

We will help you achieve your desired level of fly fishing knowledge. Whether you want to work on your casting skills or become an independent angler, we have the skills to assist you in reaching your goals. Fly fishing schools cover a variety of topics, including; selecting and using your equipment, knots, entomology, casting and reading water to find fish. Casting instruction can be specialized to include accuracy, distance and adapting to the challenging environments where fish live. Women specific fly fishing schools can also be arranged. Many people sign up for Guide School thinking they can improve their techniques and leave 'thinking like a guide'. More often than not they leave disappointed. The Anglers Academy is a school designed by anglers for anglers, with a curriculum that addresses fly casting techniques, angling terminology, fisheries biology and conservation, water types, gear and equipment, lines, leaders and tippets, line handling and management, knots, fishing ethics, rigging, hooking, controlling and playing fish, handling and releasing fish, insects, and fish food, reading water, approaching water, dry fly presentations, drag-free drifts, nymphing and streamer techniques, choosing the right fly, fly construction, basic photography skills, fly fishing history and so much more.
